Maksim Chmerkovskiy Won’t Return to ‘DWTS’ as a Pro: ‘There’s No Money’ to Make Me Miss Baby’s First Few Months

Trading in his dancing shoes for diapers. Maksim Chmerkovskiy said he doesn’t want to return to Dancing With the Stars as a pro for season 24 in fear of missing out of his unborn baby’s first few months.

“First of all, like I’ve already said, I’m having the best time of my life on Dancing With the Stars,” Chmerkovskiy, who is currently paired with Amber Rose on season 23 of the hit ABC competition show, told Bravo’s Daily Dish. “It’s a known fact. I’ve said it. I was quoted as saying the production is on point. I feel the love. I feel like everybody’s so friendly [and] we all work for the same goal, [which] is to keep dancing in television and produce a beautiful show.”

That said, Chmerkovskiy, 36, won’t be sashaying his way into the ballroom once his baby with fiancée and fellow DWTS pro Peta Murgatroyd arrives.

“I’m telling you right now I have zero interest in coming back as a dancer [next season],” the bad boy of the ballroom continued. “I’m going to have a newborn baby. I have zero want to do this. I promise you that,” he explained while referring to his son.

“The baby comes in January and then a month and a half later I would have to be in L.A. to start training with somebody else,” he said. “Trust me, I really don’t care how this comes across, but there’s no money on the planet that can replace me missing out the three, four, five months of my baby’s life. Zero chance.”

Instead, the Ukrainian hunk will be on hand to help his fiancee, 30, at home.

“I can’t wait for all of this, diapers, and all of this stuff. I can’t wait for Peta to pursue her goals and whatever and I just want to be a stay-at-home dad.”

Us confirmed the couple are expecting their first child together this past May. They got engaged in December 2015.

Chmerkovskiy, who won the mirrorball trophy with Olympian Meryl Davis in season 18, took a break from the show for seasons 19 through 22, and returned this season as a pro.

DWTS airs on ABC on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET.
