That’s some pricey peroxide! Two locks of hair from the late Marilyn Monroe will be auctioned off in L.A. in November and are expected to fetch $8,000 total.
The Some Like It Hot actress’ locks are from the estate of Freida Hull, a superfan who later became a friend of the star, who died in 1962. According to Julien’s Auctions, the organization behind the sale, Hull asked Monroe if she could keep two snips of her bright blonde hair given to her by the star’s hairdresser. Monroe acquiesced.
Now they’re part of a larger selection of Monroe memorabilia from multiple collectors, which will go on display aboard the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship in August. London, L.A. and Ireland will also play host to the collection before it hits the auction block on November 19.
Other items up for grabs include a sheer, black beaded dress from 1959’s Some Like It Hot and a pink halter-neck frock from 1953’s Niagara. Personal items, jewelry and a trove of pictures of the iconic celeb from the 1955 premiere of East of Eden will also be auctioned in November. Estimates for the pieces range from $3,000 to $600,000.
Lots in the selection previously belonged to Actors Studio artistic director Lee Strasberg and David Gainsborough-Roberts, a British collector who is thought to own the largest collection of Monroe costumes.
The Gentlemen Prefer Blondes actress would have been 90 on June 1, and stars including Mariah Carey honored her on her birthday with posts on social media. “Happy Birthday Marilyn!!!!!
