Melissa Gorga Gives Update on Teresa Giudice in Prison: Family “Hanging in There”

Melissa Gorga Gives an Update on Teresa Giudice's Prison Stay
Melissa Gorga says her sister-in-law Teresa Giudice is "hanging in there" during her 15-month prison stint.

Teresa Giudice's family is continuing to look at the positives. While the Real Housewives of New Jersey reality star completes her 15-month prison sentence in Danbury, Conn., her husband, Joe Giudice, and their daughters, Gia, 14, Gabrielle, 10, Milania, 9, and Audriana, 5, are staying strong, according to Giudice's sister-in-law Melissa Gorga.

"Everyone's hanging in there," Gorga, 36, told Andy Cohen in a Thursday, July 23, Watch What Happens Live interview. "The girls are doing good too."

Teresa, 43, is making the most of her time behind bars and her spirits are strong, Melissa said. "She's doing as well as can be expected for the situation," her sister-in-law told Cohen. "She's really strong and she's really good at keeping it positive especially when she talks to the girls on the phone and connects with her husband and everyone."

Teresa, who is allowed email and phone privileges at the Federal Correctional institution, has also had in-person visits from her family, including brother Joe Gorga. Melissa, however, is still waiting to get her face time. "I requested to [see her], but I haven't been approved yet," Melissa told Cohen. Melissa believed it was the prison officers who would authorize her visits; Cohen suggested Giudice herself has control over guests.

The Bravo reality star has been diligently documenting her time behind bars for an upcoming memoir, which she'll debut after her release from prison in December. Earlier this month, Us Weekly got an exclusive peek at her writings, which document everything from her daily meals and exercise habits to her love and devotion to her daughters. "I got an email from Gia. She got an award for perseverance. I started crying at the computer. I was so happy for her, and saying to myself, 'That is my daughter,'" she wrote on March 16, Day 70.

Giudice is six months into her 15-month sentence for fraud. While she's behind bars, Joe and their daughters are filming a Bravo special that will detail their life without mom at home. Joe will serve a 41-month prison stint once his wife is released in December.
