Hold up! Michelle Obama is setting the record straight. President Barack Obama’s wife joked while on Live With Kelly and Michael during Monday’s annual White House Easter Egg Roll that her daughters, Malia, 16, and Sasha, 13, aren’t worthy of being on Time Magazine’s 25 Most Influential Teenagers of 2014 list.
“They are not influential,” the First Lady said, laughing. “They just live here. They have done nothing to gain any influence.”
Of course, Obama was being lighthearted and is truly proud of her “pretty self-motivated” kids.
"We've always had rules,” the beaming mom explained of bringing up her teens in the White House. “No screen time during the week, no phones. Now that Malia is older she is pretty much independent because I want her to be prepared for college when I'm not there," Mrs. Obama added. “But they get their stuff done. They handle their business.”
The First Lady said her girls probably haven’t even seen Time’s feature, which also honored Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Lorde, Malala Yousafzai, Rookie founder Tavi Gevinson, Jaden Smith, Kiernan Shipka, Austin Mahone, and Chloë Grace Moretz.
"I don't even think that they realize that they're influential," she replied, when asked by Michael Strahan if Malia and Sasha have used the title to their advantage. "I don't think anybody showed them that article!"
