Sheree Sims says she knew something was off the moment Dr. Frank DeLee strolled into the delivery room at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas on May 16, 2015. “Before I even saw him, I smelled the alcohol,” Sims, who was watching her daughter, Alex, give birth, tells Us Weekly.
In video captured on a cellphone, a barefoot DeLee — clad in Bermuda shorts — is heard saying, “Wasn’t that many people in the bar when I left.” A nurse then asks: “I’m sorry. Did you waste a drink?”
The conversation apparently didn’t end there. When the nurse inquired if it was Belvedere vodka that he had to pour out, DeLee responded, “No, tequila.” Later, in the video, DeLee implied that he had been at a happy hour.
Meanwhile, Alex tells Us she was struggling with excruciating pain. “My epidural kept wearing off,” the 28-year-old preschool teacher says. But she claims DeLee wasn’t sympathetic. “One of the things he said was ‘Scoot your fat ass down.’ That’s not something you tell somebody that’s having a child. Then he goes, ‘I bet you wish your doctor was in town.’”
Indeed, in the footage, DeLee quips, “Don’t you wish Richter stayed in town this weekend now?”
Now, Alex is claiming her son, Jared, now nearly 18 months old, suffered irreversible injuries due to DeLee’s alleged negligence. According to her lawsuit, Alex alleges that DeLee’s delivery caused Erb’s palsy, paralysis to Jared’s arm due to nerve damage.
“I’m in shock that he’s still practicing medicine,” Alex tells Us. “He should lose his license.”
Neither Dr. DeLee nor his legal counsel responded to Us Weekly’s request for comment.
