That grin! Kensington Palace released a brand-new photo of Prince George on Tuesday, July 21, ahead of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s eldest son’s 2nd birthday on Wednesday.
The sweet snapshot, taken by legendary fashion photographer Mario Testino, features the Duke of Cambridge holding his son in the Sandringham House gardens following Princess Charlotte‘s christening earlier this month on July 5. According to Kensington Palace, the image was part of the series of official photos shot by Testino to mark the special family occasion.
“Look who’s turning two tomorrow!” Kensington Palace’s official Twitter account wrote alongside the snap. “#HappyBirthdayPrinceGeorge.”
In the unforgettable snap, Prince George grins mischievously in the forefront while his dad laughs in the background. The royal tot wears red shorts with a matching smocked shirt by Rachel Riley, one of Middleton’s favorite designers. (As previously reported, Riley created the outfit to mimic Prince William’s outfit from 1984, when Princess Diana‘s son met his then-day-old brother, Prince Harry, for the first time ever.)
“This photograph captures a very happy moment on what was a special day for The Duke and Duchess and their family,” a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said in a statement to Us Weekly. “They are very pleased to share this picture as they celebrate Prince George’s second birthday.”
This past Monday, Prince William dished some details about his two kids while speaking with reporters ahead of his first day on the job as an air ambulance pilot. “It’s been fantastic,” the Duke of Cambridge, 33, said of his family of four. “She’s been a little joy from heaven,” he said of his 2-month-old daughter Charlotte. “At the same time, it’s a lot more responsibility, looking after two little ones, especially when George is around. He’s a little monkey.”
William also was coy about a potential third child with his wife, 33. “We’ve only just had the second one,” he said on Monday. “You never know what is going to happen in the future.”
