Forever in our hearts — and in theaters again this weekend! Prince’s 1984 Oscar-winning film Purple Rain is returning to theaters in the wake of icon’s death.
AMC is teaming up with Warner Bros. to screen the cult classic in 87 AMC theaters starting Saturday, April 23, through Thursday, April 27. Carmike Theaters, which is merging with AMC, is also airing the film in 80 theaters.
Purple Rain marked Prince’s film debut. The rock musical drama revolves around his musical talent. Prince plays the Kid, a troubled but talented frontman of a band, who spends his time at First Avenue nightclub to escape his difficult life at home.
The movie scored an Oscar for Best Original Song Score in 1985, and made $80 million worldwide
As previously reported, Prince died on Thursday, April 21, at the age of 57. A cause of death has yet to be released.
