In the letter — given to Us Weekly on Friday, October 21, by Banks’ rep — the 25-year-old rapper says she’s sorry for launching into a tirade of homophobic and racist tweets against the former One Direction star, 23, back in May.

“Dude, I make better music than you. Simmer down with that fake white boy rebellion and that wannabe beiber swag,” she tweeted at him at the time, among other hurtful jabs. “Lol u a bitch n–ga for even responding like that. Keep sucking this yung rapunxel d–k u hairy curry scented bitch.”

At the time, Malik replied to Banks’ offensive remarks by tweeting, “@AZEALIABANKS why you been saying nasty things about me? I wasn’t talking about you lol.”

In her apology letter to him on Friday, the “212” singer said she felt compelled to reach out to Malik because of the incident with Crowe, 52. “There are no words that can fully express how sorry I am. Recent events have taught me the importance of taking accountability for one’s actions,” the letter reads. “I want and need to say I am sorry, I was wrong.”

After congratulating him on his exit from 1D, she told the “Pillowtalk” crooner that even though she has experienced discrimination “as a black woman,” she shouldn’t have lashed out at him.

“At times, I am so consumed by my own struggle, and the struggle of my race, that I forget to consider the hardships other minorities continue to endure,” Banks explained. “Coming from an ethnicity that is largely discriminated against does not warrant a license to use derogatory, abusive terminology nor does it give me the right to make hurtful remarks. I apologize not only to you, Zayn, but to all those I hurt and offended. I am not cruel, nor am I heartless or vindictive. There is a lot of love in my heart and there is good in my soul. What I did was wrong and I am committed to being a better person.”

She concluded by asking for forgiveness. “Throughout my transgressions you remained a gentleman and I applaud you for displaying class and maintaining a level head. The world can learn a lot from you and I hope you find room in your heart to accept my sincerest apologies.”

The “recent events” Banks writes about at the beginning of her letter to Malik presumably refer to her argument with Crowe. Banks previously alleged that before the Gladiator star kicked her out of his dinner party this past Saturday, he called her the N-word, spat on her and put his arms around her neck after she jokingly told one of the Oscar winner’s friends that their upcoming horror film would “suck.”

However, a source close to Crowe told Us, “No one called her the N-word. She was yelling the N-word at everyone else. Russell behaved like a hero. He acted in defense of his guests and removed her from his suite by putting her in a bear hug and picking her up.”
