Rebel Wilson’s Real Age Confirmed as 35 Following Controversy

Rebel Wilson
Rebel Wilson is actually 35 years old.

29? 35? Who’s counting anyway! Rebel Wilson’s age became the center of attention this week after Australia’s Woman’s Day claimed the Pitch Perfect star has been lying about her youth. Following their report, in which they interviewed one of Wilson’s alleged former schoolmates, the Sydney Morning Herald confirmed via records that Wilson is indeed actually 35, not 29 like she's been claiming.

According to business records filed with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission, Down Under star Wilson was born on March 2, 1980, not February 3, 1986.

A less shocking revelation: her name isn’t actually Rebel Wilson, either. According to the Australian Electoral Roll, her birth name reads as Melanie Elizabeth Bownds. During an interview last year with Australia's Women’s Weekly, the Australian actress claimed her real name was Rebel and that Melanie and Elizabeth were middle names she used at school.

The actress’ background is also a bit fudged. While she was indeed raised by professional dog breeding parents, she didn’t exactly grow up “in the ghetto” like she told Ellen DeGeneres in a 2013 interview. According to the records, Wilson attended upper-crust Tara Anglican School and her parents lived in Castle Hill, a well-off area, from 1995 to 2005.

Following the controversy, Wilson took the awkward moment in stride, choosing to make a joke out of the ordeal tweeting: “OMG I'm actually a 100 year old mermaid formerly known as ‘CC Chalice’ ….thanks shady Australian press for your tall poppy syndrome x…Okay but all jokes aside now…my real name is Fat Patricia x.”
