What a gent!

Jim Toth made quite the impression on future wife Reese Witherspoon when they met at a mutual friend's house party a few years back — when the CAA agent, 41, rescued the Oscar winner, 35, from the advances of another man who was, ahem, under the influence.

"This really drunk guy was hitting on me, making such an idiot of himself, yelling at me," the This Means War actress tells the February issue of ELLE.

Enter knight in shining armor Toth. "Jim came over and said, 'Please excuse my friend. He's just broken up with someone.'" Witherspoon recalls.

"Jim was a really good friend, pulling him out of that situation," she said of her guy, whom she began dating in early 2010 — and wed in March 2011. "That's just kind of who he is, a really good person."

However charmed she was by Toth, Witherspoon was deeply reluctant to get married again following her painful 2007 divorce from Ryan Phillippe, with whom she has kids Ava, 12, and Deacon, 8. "Jim said, 'I'm gonna show you every day what a good partner is, what a good person is. I'm going to take care of you. I'm gonna do this so much that you’re gonna get used to it.'" she says. "I was like, 'What are you talking about?' I've never had anybody like that in my life."
