Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man is set to return to the big screen — as a character in Captain America 3.
Just a week after the highest paid actor in Hollywood revealed there were no plans for an Iron Man 4 movie, sources have confirmed to Us Weekly that Downey Jr. is in talks to bring his fan-favorite superhero back to the big screen, as part of the forthcoming Captain America 3.
"There's no plans for an Iron Man 4," the Ally McBeal alum told David Letterman on The Late Show on Tuesday, Oct. 7. before dropping a hint about his current negotiations. "They do have a plan and I think they're gonna announce it. You know, they're very secretive about it. But I'm gonna do other stuff with Marvel. I'm still going to be involved with Marvel and there's gonna be plenty of fun stuff to happen."
That fun stuff, it seems, will be a showdown between Tony Stark's Iron Man and Captain America’s alter-ego Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, bringing the Civil War story line from Marvel’s comic books to the big screen.
"Robert Downey is in talks to be in Captain America 3, along with Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Anthony Mackie," the movie source confirmed to Us.

Fans won’t have to wait that long to see Downey Jr.’s Iron man in theaters, though. The action star will reprise his superhero role in next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron. His ongoing success as the armored hero has made him the highest-paid actor in Hollywood, with paychecks in the multimillions.
