When you know, you know. Ryan Reynolds joked in a new interview that he knew wife Blake Lively was the one for him after they had sex. Chatting with GQ for the magazine’s December 2016 cover story, the Deadpool star, 40, opened up about the start of his romance with the 29-year-old actress.
Asked about the exact moment he “knew it was going to happen” with Lively, Reynolds quipped, “Probably after the sex.”
He then told the real story, which is basically a rom-com come to life. “No, we were hanging out at this little restaurant in Tribeca that's open really late, and this song came on and I was just like, 'Want to dance?'" he recalled. "No one was in there, so it was just totally empty. And it was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, 'Oh, I think I just crossed a line.'”
The rest, he says, is history. “And then I walked her home,” the Canadian-born hunk told GQ. “And, uh, you know, I don't really need to go into what happened after that."
Reynolds, who now shares two daughters with Lively, added: "I'm on the precipice of having a real American family. I mean, I always imagined that would happen, and then it happened. Every idiotic Hallmark-card cliché is true."
Reynolds and Lively — who tied the knot in September 2012 after a year of dating — recently celebrated the handsome actor’s 40th birthday at O Ya, another establishment where their love story began. The Shallows actress took to Instagram on October 25 to document the special occasion.
“We fell in love at your restaurant in Boston. We stay in love at your restaurant in NY. Thank you for the BEST food and memories! You are our FAVORITE!! Another happy birthday with @vancityreynolds,” Lively captioned a photo of the duo embracing each other in the middle of a colorful balloon display. “Hey, Reynolds, I like you a wh❤️le lot. Just sayin'…😍.”
