Scarlett Johansson is going grunge!

In honor of W Magazine's 40th birthday, Johansson, Keira Knightley, Mia Wasikowska and Rooney Mara each have their own November cover and represent a different decade in fashion. For her '90s-themed cover, Johansson looks completely transformed with gray and black hair, heavy eyeliner, dark red lips and a nose ring. The usually blonde — but sometimes redheaded and brunette — beauty also shows some cleavage in a silk lace Dolce & Gabbana dress.

She may not mind the grunge style of the '90s, but there is one look Johansson, 27, can't stand. "Turtlenecks — they're horrible," the star told W. "I tried to get into them because they are so practical, but they're just so unfortunate."

And while they may wear them more frequently than women, the Hitchcock actress said, "Men don't like turtlenecks. I've never met a man who likes anything around his neck other than my hands."

Johansson is newly back on the market after dating NYC ad executive Nate Naylor. A source confirmed to Us Weekly on Monday that the couple has split after about a year of dating

When asked who's her favorite person from the '90s, Johansson had one answer at the ready.

PHOTOS: Guess the blonde star!

"Chris Farley. I thought he was hilarious," she said of the comedian, who passed away in December 1997 at the age of 33. "Growing up, I used to watch Saturday Night Live just to see him. He threw his whole body into the parts he played: He'd become red and sweaty and frantic. When he died, it was really significant for me."
