Scarlett Johansson Supports Planned Parenthood

After the United States House of Representatives passed a bill to eliminate $300 million in federal funding for women's health care centers, Scarlett Johansson felt compelled to do something about it.

Instead of simply venting to friends, the 26-year-old actress teamed up with Planned Parenthood to film a new PSA urging women to sign a petition opposing the new legislation.

"The House passed a bill to eliminate our country's family planning program and to stop Planned Parenthood health centers from receiving any federal money to provide life-saving preventative care," the Iron Man 2 star says. "That means no money for cervical cancer screenings and breast exams. No money for testing and treatment of STDs, not even testing for HIV. No money for birth control."

Johansson — who began dating Sean Penn, 50, shortly after her marriage to Ryan Reynolds, 34, ended in December — called the government's plan "disastrous."

"Every year Planned Parenthood provides essential care to millions of women, men and teens," Johansson concludes. "For many people, especially those with low incomes, Planned Parenthood is their only source of health care."
