“Having my song on iTunes for the first time made me feel a way I've never felt before,” Russell, 14, tells Us Weekly of her pop song. “I guess because it's been five years in the making of this EP and this single, to finally have my first single out makes me feel like my career is really starting to begin and flourish. Ever since the Canadian’s single premiered, she’s been flying high.

Paula Abdul sat next to me at the Special Olympics this past Saturday [July 25] and she told me she liked my song and wished me well!” Russell gushed. “It was mind-blowing to hear someone like that who I have idolized tell me they like my music!”

Abdul isn’t the only Canadian who the YouTube-discovered singer has been rubbing elbows with. While walking Team Canada into the stadium at the Special Olympics in Los Angeles, Russell got to meet the ultimate Canadian pop sensation, none other than Justin Bieber.

“The moment I saw Justin, I totally started fangirling. I've always loved Justin Bieber. I just think he's a great example of how an artist can change, go through ups and downs, but fight through and stay true to who you are. So when I met him, I was so excited! He told me to enjoy the moment and always have fun,” Russell explained. “He took pictures with all the athletes and was so encouraging. I can’t wait to be able to be an inspiration like he is.”

And the singer songwriter is definitely enjoying the moment.

“My absolute favorite feedback I've gotten on my new single ['Got This Feeling’] would probably be that it gets stuck in people's heads,” she says. “Just knowing that my words and my melodies are in someone else's thoughts is just mind-blowing to me. It's what I've always wanted in life; to be able to share what I have to say with people and them being able to relate and sing with me.”
