The alleged victim claims Collins committed the crime in West Hollywood, California, in the summer of 1983. Special Victims Unit detectives are investigating the actor for indecent exposure and whether he annoyed or molested a child, the Sheriff's Department said in a news release late on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The woman came forward with her claims two days after New York police confirmed they had opened an investigation into decades-old allegations that Collins molested a family acquaintance in Manhattan in the early 1970s.

The LASD urged anyone with information relating to the case to come forward.

"Special Victims Bureau detectives are working with New York Police Department authorities on this case," the statement read. "There is no further information at this time. The investigation is active and ongoing."

News emerged yesterday that Collins recently portrayed a pedophile priest in a new short film, Penance. Talking about the ironic movie role the actor described his role as "very intense, very quiet in a different way."
