It’s been over four years since Heath Ledger‘s untimely death, but the pain is still there for his closest costars.
At the MTV Movie Awards in Universal City, Calif. on Sunday, The Dark Knight Rises costars Gary Oldham, Christian Bale and Joseph Gordon-Levitt took the stage to promote the Batman trilogy’s final flick.
They opened by screening a montage of scenes from the last two films, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, in which Ledger’s portrayal off The Joker could hardly be missed.
“Man great to remember Heath,” Bale, 38, said at the end of the clip with his head bowed and his voice getting shakier with each word. “Great to see Heath Ledger there…”
Ledger, who was 28 at the time of his death, was found dead in a NYC apartment on January 22, 2008, just a few months after wrapping filming for The Dark Knight. His role as demented and disturbed Joker earned him a Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actor at the 2009 Golden Globes, which director Christopher Nolan accepted on his behalf.
