Former child star Teddy Rooney, son of actor Mickey Rooney, has died at the age of 66.
Teddy's sister Kelly Rooney told the Hollywood Reporter that her brother passed away on Saturday, July 2, in California, after a long illness.
As a child, Teddy appeared alongside his dad in Andy Hardy Comes Home and in an installment of General Electric Theater. His mother, Martha Vickers, was also an actress, and Teddy starred with her in an episode of Playhouse 90 (Vickers was the third of Mickey's eight wives; their marriage fell apart shortly after Teddy's birth).
In addition to his early child-star moments alongside his parents, Teddy went on to achieve solo roles in It Happened to Jane with Doris Day, and in TV shows such as Shirley Temple's Storybook and Lassie. But as he grew up he chose to move away from acting, opting instead to follow a career as a musician. He performed as part of The Rooney Brothers with his siblings Mickey Jr. and Tim.
Mickey, who had nine children in all, passed away in 2014 at the age of 93.
Teddy is survived by his wife, Carol, and children Shannon and Dominique.
