There’s never a shortage of drama on Teen Mom 2, but this season, things get even more complicated as the girls struggle to balance new relationships while also juggling their parenting responsibilities and their exes.
The stars — Leah Calvert (born Leah Messer), 20, Jenelle Evans, 20, Kailyn Lowry, 20, and Chelsea Houska, 21 — recently sat down with Us Weekly to chat about their little ones, their love lives, and how they’re coping with all the changes.
“You’ll see me and Corey really confused about whether we want to make our family work,” Leah says of her ex-husband, Corey Simms. “It’s a lot of mixed feelings.”
Complicating things, of course, is the fact that the stay-at-home mom married Jeremy Calvert in June and is now expecting the couple’s first child, due this winter. (The mother-to-be also has two daughters from her relationship with Corey, twins Aleeah and Ali, 2.)
“I’m already with Jeremy starting our life together,” she explains, “and Corey’s so undecided about what he wants.”
One thing they both want is for their kids to be happy and well-adjusted — especially now that Ali, who faces some developmental issues, is in physical therapy and about to start school.
“We get along for the sake of the girls,” Leah says. “Normally when kids go through a split home, they feel like they’re in the middle of the two parents, and it’s kind of like tug-of-war. We don’t want them to feel like that. Anytime they want Daddy, they can have Daddy; anytime they want Mommy, they have Mommy. They have us both there, all the time.”
Kailyn, mom to 2-year-old Isaac, says she and her ex, Jo Rivera, are trying to keep it together too. “Jo and I are doing pretty well right now. We don’t really see much of each other, but we’re at a point where we can be cordial for Isaac’s sake,” she tells Us, boasting that the couple’s son is now “talking in full sentences [and] speaking Spanish.”
Jenelle’s little boy, Jace, is also quite chatty — and curious. “He talks and talks and talks,” she says of the 3-year-old, noting that he loves Spiderman and Toy Story. “It’s all about, ‘Why this?’ ‘Why that?’ ‘Why is the sky blue?’ He’s at that cute stage.”
Single mom Chelsea, on the other hand, is at that “swearing off boys” stage.
“After what I went through with [my ex-boyfriend] Adam, I’m really picky now,” the mother to 3-year-old Aubree tells Us. “I do not see any dating in the near future at all.”
