The Voice’s 10 Craziest Moments: Miley Cyrus Brings Out Famous Friend, Blake Shelton Brags About Gwen Stefani

The chills! The feels! The Miley pigtails! The second part of The Voice’s season 11 “blind auditions” premiere wrapped up on Tuesday September 20, and it was full of comic jabs, amazing voices and even a special guest appearance by Miley Cyrus‘ godmother, Dolly Parton. Also even though it’s the same outfit as last night, major props to Miley’s giant flower–covered denim-on-denim outfit. We’d turn our chair for that ensemble any day.

Adam Called Blake an “Idiot”

After a stellar performance from Sa’rayah, Blake Shelton tried to explain why he didn’t turn his chair, only to be interrupted by Adam Levine saying, “Because you’re an idiot?” Ooh, burn! Miley ended up nabbing the singer for her team, so it looks like hurling the insult didn’t work out too well for the Maroon 5 frontman.

Blake Shelton Played the Gwen Stefani Card

What? Shelton is dating Gwen Stefani? Who knew?! Just kidding, of course. Shelton got his first pick of the episode by telling singer Ethan Tucker, “I do have some serious connections in that reggae-ska world these days.” Shelton literally admitted later, “I played the Gwen Stefani card.” Go figure.

Wé McDonald Is Going All the Wé

With a “Minnie Mouse” speaking voice and a deep-as-heck soulful singing voice, this 17-year-old blew away the judges, getting all four to turn their chairs. When Wé opened up about being bullied, Cyrus instantly connected, saying, “I had to tour when I was 16 or 17.… You said you were bullied. That happened to me.” Aww. Cyrus lost to Alicia Keys on this one — guess the common bond wasn’t enough!

Miley’s Dad’s Opening Act Didn’t Even Pick Her

Cyrus was so excited when she recognized Billy Gilman and shouted, “I know who the hell you are!” Yup. The 28-year-old former country music prodigy actually opened for Billy Ray Cyrus when he was only 11 years old. So obviously he picked Cyrus as a coach right? Wrong. He shocked everyone and chose Levine. He’s just being Billy!

Miley Wants to Win … Bad

Cyrus, clearly not taking her first season as a coach lightly, seemed determined to win the whole thing. She even said to the other judges, “I have a few tricks up my sleeve.… Child, I cannot wait.” Neither can we, Miley! Neither can we!

When Dolly Parton Tells You to Choose Miley, You Choose Miley

Cyrus wanted Sophia Urista on her team so badly that she pulled out all the stops to get her. Miley told the singer from New York to watch the screen behind her, and up popped a video of Dolly Parton, urging her to choose Cyrus as a coach. If your godmother was the one and only Dolly Parton, you’d do the same thing! Needless to say, Sophia joined #teamMiley.

Alicia Keys Slammed Adam and Blake With Her Beautiful Feminist Declaration!

When trying to win over Sophia (who ended up going with Cyrus), Alicia made a rousing speech about female performers. Responding to comments made by Shelton and Levine about being “scared” and “intimidated” by the singer’s voice, Keys said, “That’s why we need to be together — so we can continue to scare all the men in the world who need to be shown that a woman’s power cannot be contained. It’s not supposed to be smooshed down, so they can be comfortable!” Chills! Girl power!

The Guy Who Wrote the ‘Transformers’ Theme Is on Team Blake!

Need we say more? Fifty-six-year-old Dan Shafer blew Shelton away with his youthful voice. Going for his second shot at musical success, the former jingle writer and current member of #teamBlake touched Cyrus’ heart as well. After Shafer revealed that he originally quit music to be closer to his son, Cyrus said, “My dad, when he was touring, the minute I was born he was like, ‘I looked at you, and I couldn’t be on the road anymore.’ … It’s so important — it shows a lot about you.” More than meets the eye, indeed!

Adam Levine Is an Awful Poet

After Levine heard Lauren Diaz’s gorgeous cover of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You,” he recited what may be one of the corniest poems of all time saying, “The sky is blue, the grass is green, this girl is on Alicia’s team.” Come on, Adam. You can do better than that.

If You Don’t Get Proposed to After Joining Alicia Keys’ Team on The Voice, Did You Even Get Proposed To?

After Keys serenaded her, Diaz obviously picked her childhood hero as her coach. When it couldn’t get any better for the 24-year-old mother, her boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed. Keys was so excited, she shouted, “We’re all getting married! All three of us!”
