Tiger Woods Reveals His One Life Regret — and No, It’s Not Cheating on Elin Nordegren

#noregrets. Tiger Woods revealed in a new interview with Charlie Rose on Thursday, October 20, what his one life regret is — and it isn’t what most people would think.

During the rare one-on-one interview for Rose’s PBS program, the 40-year-old golfer got reflective as he spoke about the gift and the burden of being one of the world’s most well-known athletes.

“Well, it’s a burden in the sense that it — the amount of obligations that I have at a tournament,” he told the veteran talk-show host. “The anonymity that was lost that, you know, one … you know, if you look back, the only regret I have in life is not spending another year at Stanford, and I wish I would’ve had one more year.”

Tiger Woods poses with his then-wife, Elin Nordegren, at the welcome dinner after the first official practice day of the 2006 Ryder Cup at the K Club on Sept. 19, 2006, in Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland.

Rose, 74, seemed startled by Woods’ answer, given that the pro athlete made headlines for his explosive cheating scandal in 2009, back when he was married to former model Elin Nordegren.

“That’s the only regret?” Rose asked for clarification.

“That’s the only regret. I wish I had [spent an extra year],” Woods responded.

“Of all the things that’s happened to you?” Rose pressed on.

“All the things and that’s all — “ Woods confirmed.

“Everything?” Rose asked, clearly unable to let the answer go.

Later on in the interview, Woods addressed the issue head-on, telling Rose that he still considers Nordegren one of his “best friends,” though he acknowledged that he has “made a bunch of mistakes.”

When asked how he explains to his children why he and Nordegren are no longer together (the pair divorced in 2010 after six years of marriage), the golfer said, “It’s because Daddy made some mistakes. Daddy made some mistakes.”

Woods and Nordegren are parents of two young children — Sam, 9, and Charlie, 7.
