According to Spelling, 40, the fellow former teen stars first met and bonded years ago during Holmes' Dawson's Creek days, but things were frostier when they had encountered each other years later at the office of vocal coach Eric Vetro, according to an excerpt published at RadarOnline. (Before Holmes emerged from the studio, Spelling writes that she heard the Mania Days star "singing horribly off-key").

Once Holmes emerged and said hello, Spelling writes that Holmes (whose transformation during her Tom Cruise years is well-known) kept her distance. "I didn't know whether we should hug or shake hands. But the signal from her was immediately clear: Don’t even come close. I instantly got nervous. We clearly weren’t going to catch up on the last ten years. And we certainly weren't going to talk about her husband, Tom Cruise."

Spelling says that she complimented the actress on her daughter Suri, now 7, but Holmes claimed she was unaware that Spelling then had two kids of her own (Stella and Liam, with husband Dean McDermott).

"Then I was annoyed," she recalls. "Come on. Okay, I know you're busy. But you're in the public eye. Don't tell me you don't follow the tabloids. Don't tell me you don't know anything about other celebrities and their kids . . .Then we stood there. She was just plastic. In a perfectly polite way . . . my pits were drenched. I never sweat. It was that awkward. I thought, I know you're not a robot because you can’t sing for s**t ."

As my anxiety faded, I just felt sorry for her," continues Spelling. "I felt sad for her. Those paparazzi photos, the ones where she looks like she’s miserable but putting on a happy face? That's what she looked like in person." Spelling adds the Holmes filed for divorce soon after their encounter.
