All gold everything. Michael Phelps and Nicole Johnson tied the knot in a stunning ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in late October, and they released their gorgeous, sun-drenched wedding video via Brides.com on Friday, December 16.
The minute-long clip kicks off with some very dreamy shots of a shirtless (of course!) Phelps, 31, running his fingers through his hair while getting ready for the big day. The video also cuts to shots of Johnson, 31, checking out her reflection in the mirror while wearing a gorgeous lace-patterned dress with an impressive train and thigh-high slit.
Other scenes from the video show the photogenic pair holding hands while strolling along the beach, riding a golf cart and each sharing shy glances at the camera.
The 22-time Olympic gold medalist and the former beauty queen’s picturesque beachside ceremony was not their first, however. As Us Weekly previously reported, the couple secretly tied the knot in an intimate ceremony with just five people in their backyard in June, prior to the summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
“We pretty much got married in sweats and jams,” Johnson told Brides.com of their first ceremony. “When we talk about our wedding, we mean our Cabo wedding in October with our parents, our siblings, our bridal party and a few people who played an integral part of our relationship while we were together.”
It has been an eventful year for the couple, who also welcomed their son, Boomer, in May. When asked what was more stressful this year, training for the Olympics or dealing with Boomer’s diapers, Phelps laughed and told Brides.com the two couldn’t be compared.
“It’s not easy training for the Olympics, but I was truly enjoying it for the first time in a really long time, and that side of it was fairly easy. Boomer is truly, for me, he’s taught me a lot about patience,” the Olympic athlete said. “And Boomer is growing up like no one’s business, it’s insane. And he’s so content now — for things where he used to be fussy, now he’ll sit with me on the couch and not be fussy. He’s developing his own personality.”
Boomer even had his own part to play in the wedding ceremony. The couple told Brides.com that their little one was the ring bearer, but may have been a bit mischievous in his duties.
“We put [the ring] in one of those little net bags that you have for jewelry,” Johnson told the site. “We got one that matched his [Burberry] outfit, and we put that around his wrist, and he was carried down the aisle by [friend and gold medal swimmer] Allison [Schmitt], our roommate. I think he kind of sucked on the bag a little bit while he was standing up there!”
Phelps and Johnson dated on and off for eight years before getting engaged in February 2015.
