Weird Al Yankovic Spoofs Pharrell’s “Happy” With His Rendition of “Tacky”: Watch

Weird Al has done it again! The king of parody, “Weird Al” Yankovic, released the first of eight new music videos on Monday, July 14, spoofing Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.” Al’s newest endeavor pokes fun at the tackiest of people, brought to life by a cast of comedy all-stars, Aisha Tyler, Jack Black, Eric Stonestreet, Margaret Cho, and Kristen Schaal.

The bizarre music video begins with Weird Al, 54, wearing an incredibly loud outfit as he writhes and shakes inside a warehouse. “Tacky” makes fun of various types of annoying people: those who name-drop, Instagram too frequently, wear suspenders and belts, and other irritating traits attributed to “tacky” types.

“I wanted to really do what is ostensibly my last album with a big splash,” Al told NPR last weekend of his aggressive music video campaign for his new album, Mandatory Fun. “I wanted the first week to be big; I wanted every single day of release week to be an event.”

Fans are most looking forward to Yankovic’s “Word Crimes,” a spoof of Robin Thicke‘s smash 2013 hit “Blurred Lines.” Al explained to NPR: “When I do my parodies, because of YouTube, I’m never the first person to do a parody of a certain song… I don’t think anybody, to this point, had done a “Blurred Lines” parody about proper use of grammar.”

His funny spoofs in the past have included “Eat It,” “Like a Surgeon,” “Amish Paradise,” and “White and Nerdy.” Added Yankovic of his fame, “It makes me a hero among a small subset of the population.”

Mandatory Fun, Yankovic’s fourteenth studio album and his follow-up to 2011’s Alpocaplypse, is released on Tuesday, July 15. To mark the occasion, Yankovic will release one new video spoof through next Monday, July 21.
