Wendy Williams Disses Britney Spears’ New Boyfriend Charlie Ebersol: “I Smell an Opportunist”

Is Britney Spears‘ new boyfriend toxic? Wendy Williams certainly seems to think so. The talk show host shared her opinion of Spears’ new beau, Charlie Ebersol, during an interview with HuffPost Live on Monday, Nov. 10, and it wasn’t exactly flattering.

Williams, 50, was chatting with host Marc Lamont Hill about some of the week’s hot topics when he brought up the “Perfume” singer’s recent selfie with Ebersol, which she tweeted on Saturday, Nov. 8. “I saw,” the comedienne said disapprovingly.

“People were saying it’s too soon,” she added. “Britney’s been with him for three weeks. I’m chalking this up to her being a girl, soft and pink.”

Williams went on to tell Hill that she gets where Spears is coming from, being a girl herself, but that the pop star needs to be more careful about flaunting her love life on Twitter and Instagram. “Here’s where she needs to grow up and perhaps think twice about stuff like that, because she’s got kids,” the former radio DJ said of the mom of two sons, Jayden and Sean. “When I was 34, I was still able to make stupid decisions and things.”

Williams’ real issue, though, was with Spears’ new man, a producer-writer and the son of Saturday Night Live co-creator Dick Ebersol and Kate and Allie actress Susan Saint James. “Here’s what I thought — it’s not just about Britney putting it up. Charlie put it up also!” she exclaimed. “Excuse me, I smell an opportunist.”

She continued: “I understand he’s an Ebersol, and that means a lot of moola moola, but everybody these days wants to be a celebrity. And being a celebrity and having money are two different things. I think that Charlie’s an opportunist. Why? Because he put that up on his own Instagram. It wasn’t just Britney being soft and cute. Charlie put it up too.”

Host Hill tried to argue that Ebersol might have done it because he was being “soft and cute” too — but Williams was skeptical. “Men do fall, I think in a different way, but I don’t anticipate this relationship lasting for very much longer,” she argued. “Here’s the thing. Britney — and I say this with love — Britney’s got a tic. She’s got issues. And after a while, guys aren’t going to want to deal with that. She’s got real issues.”

Spears, for her part, has stayed mostly mum on her new romance, telling Extra just that there was a “special someone” in her life, and that it was “very new.” She even declined to write anything about Ebersol in the caption of their selfie, adding only a heart emoji.
