Which Team Took the Gold During the Women’s Gymnastics All-Around? (Spoilers!)

Cue the Final Five! The U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team scored the gold during the all-around competition on Tuesday, August 9. The ladies successfully defended their Olympic title, scoring a total of 184.897, easily surpassing their competition.

Russia took home the silver medal with a team total of 176.688, leaving them 8.209 behind the Final Five’s Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian.

The difference marks the largest margin of victory in an Olympic women’s team final since the Soviet Union defeated Czechoslovakia by 8.997 points at the Rome 1960 Olympic Games, more than fifty years ago.

China followed with the bronze, scoring 176.003.

The U.S. team’s victory also marks Douglas and team captain Raisman as the first American women to secure a second Olympic team gold.

The first rotation was the vault, where Biles, Hernandez and Raisman each earned scores above 15. Kim Kardashian’s favorite athlete, Biles, earned the highest score on the vault of 15.933.

The second rotation was the uneven bars, then balance beam and finally the floor exercise.

Kocian dominated the uneven bars with the highest score of 15.933 while Biles mastered the beam with an impressive 15.300. Biles also lead her team to the gold, finishing her floor exercise with a whopping 15.800.
