‘X-Men’ TV Series Lands Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza! Find Out Who They’ll Play

Matthew Crawley is getting superpowers! FX’s X-Men pilot Legion will star Downton Abbey alum Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza and Jean Smart, the network announced on Thursday, February 4.

Stevens, 33, will play David Haller, the son of X-Men leader Professor X, who battles mental health issues before falling for a fellow psychiatric patient. Plaza (Parks and Recreation) is set to play his upbeat friend Lenny, and Smart (Fargo) will portray a therapist named Melanie.

Fargo creator Noah Hawley wrote the pilot, while executive producers include Bryan Singer, director of numerous X-Men films including this year’s upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, and Simon Kinberg, who wrote Apocalypse. The pilot will begin production in March, and no planned premiere date has yet been announced.

Stevens played Matthew Crawley on Downton Abbey for three seasons before his character was killed in a car accident. The actor has recently focused on film work, as he played Sir Lancelot in 2014’s Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and can next be seen costarring as the Beast opposite Emma Watson in 2017’s live-action Beauty and the Beast.

X-Men: Apocalypse stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac and Nicholas Hoult and is hitting theaters on May 27.
