Who Is Felicia Culotta? 5 Things to Know About Britney Spears’ Former Assistant

The New York Times’ documentary Framing Britney Spears introduced viewers to Felicia Culotta, a woman who served as Britney Spears’ assistant and has known her for decades. She played a pivotal role in the early days of the “Womanizer” singer’s career — and now, she has chosen to speak out about the pop star’s conservatorship battle. “I don’t know that I ever really had any definition on what I was supposed to do with Britney. For a long time, they called me her chaperone and then at one point they wanted to call me her partner and we didn't think that sounded right,” she said of her role in Spears’ life in the documentary. “I definitely wasn't her mother or her big sister, so we settled on assistant.” Culotta revealed in the special, which is streaming on FX and Hulu, why she was interested in participating in the documentary. “I will say the one reason I agreed to do the interview is so we can remind people of why they fell in love with her in the first place,” she said. Spears was placed under a conservatorship in 2008 following her public breakdown and split from husband of two years Kevin Federline, with whom she shares sons Sean Preston and Jayden. Her father, Jamie Spears, served as co-conservator but was given full control over the “Gimmie More” singer’s person and estate when Andrew Wallet resigned in March 2019. Culotta explained in the documentary that she has known the “Toxic” singer since she was a little girl. “I’ve known [Britney] since she was 5,” she explained. “By then, we all knew her talent was just extraordinary.”

She Stopped Working for Britney’s Team in 2007

Culotta began working for the Grammy winner in 1998 but announced her departure from Britney’s team in 2007 via a fan site. “I cherish ALL the incredible opportunities that came my way thru my job with Britney and am crushed/saddened/heart sick by the way her life is unfolding,” she wrote, per Today.com. “There’s just so much you can do to help a person — I don’t dare want to be an enabler, and I cannot love her enough for the both of us. I cannot convince her in ANY way to love herself.”

She Also Worked for the Jonas Brothers

After exiting Britney’s team, Culotta went on to briefly serve as the Jonas Brothers’ assistant before returning to work for the “Perfume” singer again. “Britney has always held a special place in my heart,” she told Us at the time. “[I] felt like I had to be a part of this exciting time in Britney’s career. I love Britney and missed her dearly.”

By 2016, Culotta had become the VIP coordinator for meet and greets during Britney’s tour.

She Has Spoken Out Against Britney’s Conservatorship

Not only did Culotta discuss her longtime bond with Britney in the New York Times documentary, she also said that she “doesn’t understand” why the Crossroads actress is under a conservatorship. “Especially for somebody Britney’s age and somebody capable of so much that I know firsthand she's capable of,” she explained.
