Part of the team! Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes were enlisted to helm GMA3: What You Need to Know in September 2020 opposite Dr. Jennifer Ashton.
“The three of us have been working and collaborating together on random segments for a while now,” Ashton, 53, recalled of her broadcast partnership with Robach, 49, and Holmes, 45, during Resident Magazine’s April 2021 cover story. “When Amy would anchor GMA, we had a joke between us — we would just always say we felt like we were in a tennis match or doing a dance, and that we wish we could do it all the time.”
The physician added at the time: “I can’t overstate the amount of respect and admiration I have for these guys and what they do on the air, especially when it comes to their range. It’s like watching the G.O.A.T. of athletes every day do their thing. I learn so much from them.”
After previously serving as NBC correspondents, Good Morning America announced in September 2020 that Robach and Holmes would join Ashton as coanchors on a third hour of the daily broadcast. GMA3 airs each afternoon on ABC, covering news, health and lifestyle stories.
The New Normal author, for her part, initially joined the TV network in October 2017 as their Chief Medical Correspondent and Health Editor.
“BEYOND PROUD, THRILLED, EXCITED that we have been nominated for 2 Emmy’s! This has been a labor of love for all of us since day one, and we’ve poured everything we have into this show during one of the most historic years in the last century,” Ashton wrote via Instagram in May 2021, gushing over GMA3’s Daytime Emmy nominations. “Our team, mostly the amazing people behind the scenes, are truly the best there is, but above all, our viewers have given us the opportunity to share news, insights and stories in a way that informs and inspires. Go Team!!”
While Ashton has dutifully reported on the latest health news during her GMA tenure through the years, her cohosts’ relationship made headlines last month. Robach and Holmes — who are married to Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig, respectively — were spotted looking cozy in a series of photos published by the Daily Mail. Neither Holmes nor the Michigan native have addressed the snaps and Us Weekly has reached out for comment. Holmes and Robach — who’ve deleted their respective Instagram accounts — returned to GMA3 as usual alongside Ashton on Thursday, December 1, but did not discuss the controversy.
