Dancing With the Stars fans have been rooting for Emma Slater and Sasha Farber — on and off the ballroom floor — for years. After meeting in 2009, the dancers started dating in 2011. Three years into their romance, however, they hit pause on their relationship — but continued to work together on the ABC show. “It goes through moments, but I think the world of Sasha. I really do,” the U.K. native told Glamour of working with her ex in December 2014. “I wouldn't have been so close to him for three years of my life. He's just the best person. I don't think we're supposed to finish together. I think there are other people that might make us both individually happy, but I'm always going to be his best friend. I feel like his best friend right now. It has just happened in the way we have gone from a beautiful three-year relationship, which I love and cherish, to best friends.” Slater added at the time that the twosome still lived together. “It's just us! … But we're fine, completely fine. I just have so much respect for him,” she said. “We both understood that it wasn't going the way that it should forever, so we were mature about it and made that decision, but we amicably agreed — we're family. He's the only family I have in America, and we still love each other. For now, living together is just totally fine. It's not going to be forever, but I was glad that he decided to go on tour with me. I only ever want the best for him, but I will be there because we're going to be there for each other.” [sendtonews type="float" key="t7Jm0Sy81t-2836054-14453"] By 2015, the pair opted to give their romantic relationship another shot. He proposed on Dancing With the Stars in October 2016. "Babe, I wanted to do this for such a long, long time,” Farber said during the live show. "I love you so much. Will you marry me?" Slater accepted and Us Weekly broke the news when they exchanged vows in 2018. “We are on top of the world right now. It was the most amazing day. It was absolutely amazing. Nothing went wrong. It was brilliant,” she gushed to Us about their Los Angeles nuptials. “It was incredible. I kept thinking, ‘This isn’t normal. This isn’t normal. Us exclusively revealed that the pair had exchanged vows in March. “It was something out of a fairy tale and she was beautiful,” Farber told Us. “I kept telling her every hour, every ten minutes, every five minutes, 'You look beautiful.'"

2020

As part of coronavirus protocols for season 29, Slater and Farber were forced to live separately. “It’s so funny, when our amazing producers told us, ‘OK, so we have some news for you, you’re going to have to be quarantined separately,’ I laughed,” the British dancer told Entertainment Tonight in August. “I was nervous, so I just started laughing.”

During an interview with Us, Slater added: “Obviously, we’ve lived together pre-COVID during the season and we never really fight. We don’t really argue that much. We get frustrated, but, not at each other, like, I will witness him get frustrated about choreographing something and I’ll try to help. … We have very different choreographing sort of styles and sometimes I’ll want to use him [and ask], ‘Can I try to step out with you in the lounge?’”

2021

Slater opened up to Us about maintaining balance in their work and personal relationships.

“I think we do a really good job of separating our work life from our home life, which is crazy because we literally [do] everything together,” she said. “So, it is hard to separate it. For some reason, we do a really good job with that. It’s just, like, it doesn’t get to us in our personal life.”

2022

While the pair didn’t publicly acknowledge their fourth wedding anniversary in March, Slater did praise her spouse on his birthday in May.

“Happy birthday @sashafarber1!!! What a special one you are, no doubt about that :) Thank you for all that you do and all that you are,” she wrote. “You are so loved, loved by everyone and you deserve the best always. You’re always there for everyone, doing everything to make other people happy. Even when theres a lot going on. I wish you everything that your heart desires! Here to cheer you on no matter what!!”

August 2022

Us exclusively confirmed that the duo called it quits after four years of marriage. “They’ve been apart for many months now,” a source said, noting that it was a "tough decision" for the pair to split. “They both have not been wearing their wedding rings and are each leading a single life.”

The insider added that the twosome are still “figuring out” what life apart looks like and haven't yet filed for divorce. “It’s been a difficult time since they really care about each other and have been together for so long,” the source added.

Us confirmed that Slater filed for divorce from Farber six months after the pair announced they called it quits. The U.K. native cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.
