In May 2016, the former Disney star opened up about her sexuality in public for the first time, admitting that she “never thought” she would ever come out even though she’d known she was gay since she was 12. “I knew I couldn’t say it out loud because [people would say], ‘Oh my god, little Olivia is gay, this is crazy,'” she said at the time, referencing her Cosby Show character. “[But] I felt lighter. I felt like I could go out and not have to put on 17 different hats to be myself. I realize that just living my truth of what I am, there’s one less person to fight me in my own head.”
In June 2020, she married partner Miranda Maday in a secret backyard ceremony.
