Retrofitted for a prince! New details have emerged about the cottage Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will soon call home. It’s the latest development for the couple, who married this May and announced in October that they’re expecting their first child. Gift from Grandmother

“The Queen gifted Harry and Meghan their cottage,” a source tells Us Weekly. “She did the same with Kate and William, who now live in Apartment 1A at [Kensington] Palace.”

A 20-Room Abode

The source adds that the cottage is currently undergoing an extensive renovation: “It is very old. It was five separate apartments where palace staff have been living for years. Those will all be knocked into one. It was 20 rooms total, [including] ten bedrooms.”

The insider, meanwhile, says the renovated cottage will only have five or six bedrooms, including living space for a part-time nanny.

Upsizing

The cottage is much larger than Harry and Meghan’s current residence, Nottingham Cottage, an apartment on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

New Amenities

The royal couple already have designs on all that extra space at Frogmore Cottage. “The property does not have a gym or a yoga studio, but Harry and Meghan are planning to build an all-purpose space for gym and personal training use,” the insider reveals.

“Meghan loves her yoga and is her avid workout, so the fact that she has a place to practice privately is something she really wanted,” the source adds, specifying that the cottage will also have a nursery for Meghan and Harry’s incoming bundle of joy.

Moving In Next Year

Earlier reports pegged Harry and Meghan’s move-in date to sometime after the holidays, but the insider says the residence might not be turnkey-ready until next fall: “While they’re really hoping to be moved into Frogmore in time for the birth, they’re also realistic … With the kind of delays these projects face and the limited amount of time they have, they’re mentally prepared to not be in the new house until autumn 2019.”

Privacy, Please

Previously, the source told Us that the duke and duchess’ move to Frogmore is proof that they “really want to raise their children out of the public eye.”

“They want their children to grow up in as normal an environment as possible,” the insider explains, adding that the couple plan to build a wall between the cottage and the public areas of Frogmore. “It was actually Princess Eugenie who convinced them to make the decision, as she had such a wonderful, peaceful childhood on the grounds of Windsor.”

Town vs. Country

Harry and Meghan will still keep their offices at Kensington Palace, but they “never loved living in London” and “feel most at home” in the country, the source revealed to Us. Meanwhile, the insider tells Us they made the decision to move between late September and early October.

A Meaningful Move

The source also revealed Windsor is a “very special place to Harry.” Plus, Frogmore House means a lot to both him and his wife, as it’s where the couple held their wedding reception, which was hosted by Prince Charles.

Ready for Baby No. 1

Kensington Palace announced the move in a press release on Saturday, November 24. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will more to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate early next year as they prepare for the arrival of their first child,” the release stated.

‘A Special Place’

The press release continued: “The couple have lived at Nottingham Cottage since their engagement last year. Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate.”
