On Saturday, July 4, the rapper, 43, took to Twitter to make a big announcement: He's running for president against President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden. "We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future," the designer wrote. "I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION." Kim Kardashian, retweeted her husband's message, adding an emoji of an American flag. A source told Us Weekly exclusively shortly after his announcement that the KKW Beauty founder, 39, is completely standing by his decision. “Kanye has been planning this for years and Kim has known about his aspirations and has been supportive,” the insider shared. “Kanye is passionate about arts and education and wants to support in any way he can." Both West and Kardashian have been vocal over the years about their support for Trump, 74. In May, the Georgia native implied that he will be voting for the former reality star again. And we know who I’m voting on,” he told GQ magazine at the time. “And I’m not going to be told by the people around me and the people that have their agenda that my career is going to be over. That’s like if [Barack] Obama's campaign was ‘I’m with black.’ What’s the point of being a celebrity if you can’t have an opinion? Everybody make their own opinion! You know?" A second source revealed to Us that the producer "has not registered as a candidate" to get on state election ballots and missed the deadline for Indiana, New York and Texas. "I think, you know, what we've learned looking back is that the presidential job is best suited for someone with experience and that is a pro in their field," the American Idol judge — who collaborated with West on a 2010 remix of her song "E.T." — said during a virtual interview with the U.K.'s Hits Radio on July 10. "I think we have seen and learned from experience that when we don't have pros in position, that it can get a little wild. ... I love Kanye. He is amazing. I just, you know, I love him as an artist. And I think he's an incredible disrupter as an artist and a conversation-maker as an artist. And that's what I love the most about him."

John Legend

After Chance the Rapper seemingly endorsed the "Power" rapper's political pursuits, Legend reminded his Twitter followers that the upcoming election was not a game. "If you are going to speak out, try to do your homework. Read about it. Talk to activists and organizers and people impacted," he wrote on July 13. "Be open to evolution and changing your mind. Be intentional and strategic. And think about the impact of your words on the real lives of real people. ... Part of an artist's job is to imagine a different future. I appreciate the desire to break free from the strictures of the 2-party system in America, for instance. But you can't divorce that conversation from the real world implications of rooting for a futile 3rd party bid." The "Bigger Love" artist concluded that there are "real world implications" of electing a public official with no experience. "This is not merely an intellectual exercise," he tweeted. "It's life and death."

The model, who previously feuded with Kardashian, slammed West’s bid on July 6. “He's really getting himself in a pot of tea that's not ready for him,” Beckford exclusively told Us. “I try to never speak bad. I've seen him and his lady, [wife Kim Kardashian], do some positive things, and I kind of wish they would just stay on that. That vibe running a country — it's not an easy thing.” He also noted that he wants “a healthy, sound-minded person” in office.

"Laugh all you want, but this would be historic because, while this country has had a Black president, we've never had a crazy Black president." "It should be pointed out that Kanye still has to register with the Federal Election Commission, collect enough signatures to get on the ballot, create a campaign platform and he's already missed the deadline to file as an independent candidate in a bunch of states," Anderson said.
