‘Selling Sunset’ Stars Then vs Now: What the Realtors Looked Like Before the Netflix Reality Show

Transformation time! The stars of Selling Sunset know a lot about glamour, and while they regularly step up to the plate to deliver fashion and beauty looks worthy of the red carpet, many of the women underwent makeovers prior to the hit series. Christine Quinn, for instance, has been forthcoming about the way she appears on the Netflix reality show — which premiered in March 2019 — versus how she looks when the cameras are not rolling. “I tell people all the time: I got my boobs done, I get my lips done, tons of Botox, tons of makeup. How I look on [Selling Sunset] is not how I look when I wake up in the morning,” the realtor told Vogue in September 2020. “When it comes to the show, I don’t do my own hair. I do my own makeup because I love doing it. The full start to finish, including wardrobe, is around two and a half to three hours. My glam isn’t cheap either — $1,000 a day, if I go all out. It’s expensive to look this cheap.” Despite changing her appearance for the show, Quinn noted that she is “all about plastic surgery truth-bearing” because of the expectations that come with it. “It’s important in a world where there’s this façade of social media causing people to have body dysmorphia,” she said. “People think that [things are] real, and they’re not.” [jwplayer U6u35LSM-zhNYySv2] The TV personality revealed that she “was buying and returning [clothes] a lot” during season 1 because she was not “doing as well” financially as she has since the series took off. Amid her success, her look “got bolder.” “I went into the show wanting to be taken seriously,” she elaborated. “Even though I’m confident, I dressed in a way that I thought people would expect a realtor to look. I was a little more conservative, I covered up more. One thing I learned in season 2 is that [fashion] doesn’t define you. I can be a professional and sell homes, and it doesn’t matter what I wear. I became a little more myself and more vulnerable. I was portrayed in season 1 as a ‘one-note bitch’ so I’m doing my best to show people that I am relatable.” Heather Rae Young, for her part, was a model prior to taking up real estate, but she has remained more tight-lipped about any modifications to her appearance. “For interviews today for glam, I decided to go with a natural lip,” she wrote via Instagram in August 2019. “Tomorrow, maybe I’ll add a pop of color … ?” One commenter called the reality star’s selfie caption into question amid speculation that she got lip injections, replying, “Natural lip lol.” Young responded, “Hahah [sic] natural color.” Scroll through the gallery below to see how the cast of Selling Sunset has changed through the years. Chrishell Stause

The Kentucky native got her start as an actress on All My Children, where she made her debut in 2005. She later joined Days of Our Lives in 2013 and The Young and the Restless in 2016.  

Stause made headlines prior to Selling Sunset for her marriage to Justin Hartley. The pair tied the knot in October 2017, but he filed for divorce in November 2019, with the split becoming a story line on the show. They finalized their divorce in February 2021.

Christine Quinn

Quinn was an actress and model before venturing into real estate. She appeared in films such as 2011’s Shark Night and 2015’s Hot Tub Time Machine 2. She also guest-starred on Drop Dead Diva in 2014, Ballers and NCIS: Los Angeles in 2015 and Angie Tribeca in 2016. She traveled the world for two years and fell in love with architecture and interior design, which led her to her career as a realtor.  She welcomed son CJ with her husband, Christian Richard, in May 2021.

Mary Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald was in the business long before Selling Sunset. She lived in New York and London for years, where she gained experience as a realtor. She then relocated to L.A. and rose through the ranks of The Oppenheim Group.

Heather Rae Young

The California native first gained attention as Playboy’s Playmate of the Month in February 2010. She previously worked as a model and actress, landing roles in The Internship in 2013, Love in the Time of Monsters in 2014 and Comedy Bang! Bang! in 2016. She took on another career in 2014 when she obtained her real estate license. She married Tarek El Moussa in October 2021. The pair welcomed their first child together, son Tristan, in January 2023.

Maya Vander

Vander grew up in Israel and moved to L.A. in 2002. She decided to pursue real estate because her family has a history of investing in properties and flipping houses.

Davina Potratz

The Germany native was a model for 10 years before she began her real estate career in 2006 due to her passion for architecture and aesthetics. She has a background in international sales and is also a broker.

Amanza Smith

Smith has been in the entertainment industry for years. She was formerly a cheerleader for the Indianapolis Colts, a briefcase handler on two seasons of Deal or No Deal and a model. After majoring in interior design at Indiana State University, she returned to her first love by decorating and staging homes. Before Selling Sunset, she also had relationships with NFL player Ralph Brown and actor Taye Diggs.

Emma Hernan

Hernan pursued real estate after buying her first home in the Hollywood Hills. She has other ventures in her work life, though, as the CEO of food company Emma Leigh & Co. and a model.

Vanessa Villela

The Mexico native was a soap opera star in her native country prior to becoming a real estate agent. Her late sister, who was also a realtor, inspired her to get into the field during her downtime from acting.
