A complicated past! Tom Brady and Bridget Moynahan welcomed their son, John, after their relationship was over and the New England Patriots star had already moved on with Gisele Bündchen. In a June 2008 conversation with Harper’s Bazaar, the New York native reflected on her experience bringing a child into the world with her ex — and said she wouldn’t change a thing. While things may have been complicated between the John Wick actress and the athlete, Brady previously told Access Hollywood that the situation brought him and Bündchen closer. “I’m blessed to find this life partner that we all kind of seek at different times in our life,” he told the outlet. “We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs together, and in so many ways, that’s kind of built our relationship so strong.” The football pro and the supermodel tied the knot in February 2009. They share son Benjamin and daughter Vivian. Moynahan, meanwhile, married businessman Andrew Frankel in 2015. “He’s the nicest guy ever,” the I, Robot actress gushed about her husband during a November 2015 appearance on The Rachael Ray Show. “Genuine, kind and sensitive. He’s the best.” Years later, however, Brady and Bündchen sparked split rumors in October 2022 when news broke that they were living separately. “Tom and Gisele are still not seeing eye to eye regarding his retirement,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly one month prior, referring to Brady walking back his decision to leave the NFL. As the quarterback and his wife made headlines for marriage woes, Moynahan reposted a quote via Instagram originally shared by marriage therapist Vienna Pharaon. “Not everything is meant to be mended. Brady and Moynahan started seeing each other in 2004.

2006

After more than two years of dating, the duo called it quits in late 2006. Shortly after their split, the NFL quarterback started seeing Bündchen. Within a matter of weeks, however, the new couple learned Moynahan was pregnant with Brady’s child.

2008

Moynahan broke her silence surrounding her split from Brady in the July 2008 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “I’m not sure anyone — and I could be wrong in this — grows up thinking, ‘I want to be a single mom,’” she said at the time. “When you’re suddenly pregnant and no one is standing by your side, even if you’re in your 30s, it’s a hard conversation. I’m a traditional girl, and I believe in marriage, and I just always thought that’s the way I’d be doing this. For a moment, it was hard for me to accept that this was the way I was going to have a family.”

The Sex and the City alum added that she “started sobbing” when she came home alone from the hospital with her son: “All of a sudden, you have this newborn you have no training for. It’s frightening.”

When asked about Brady, Moynahan added, “There’s no reason why my son, years down the line, would need to read anything [personal] about his mother or his father.”

2009

Bündchen made headlines in March 2009 after she told Vanity Fair that she feels like John is “100 percent” her child.

"It was definitely a surprise for both of us. In the beginning you're living this romantic fantasy; you're thinking, ‘This can't be true, it's so good!’ And then, Whoops—wake-up call!” the model told the magazine about Moynahan’s pregnancy. “We were dating two and a half months when he found out, and it was a very challenging situation. Obviously, in the beginning, it's not the ideal thing." 

"He's a little angel—the sweetest, most cuddly, loving baby," Bündchen continued. "I feel blessed to have him in my life. I understand that he has a mom, and I respect that, but to me it's not like because somebody else delivered him, that's not my child. I feel it is, 100 percent. I want him to have a great relationship with his mom, because that's important, but I love him the same way as if he were mine. I already feel like he's my son, from the first day."

Reports surfaced at the time that Moynahan was upset by Bündchen’s comments.

2011

Moynahan continued to play coy about her relationship with Brady and Bündchen in 2011. "I never made a comment about Gisele or Tom publicly," she told More magazine that February. "I have a relationship with these people on a daily basis. I'm raising a child, and it's public. My son has two loving parents and an extended family, whether it's cousins or stepmothers or boyfriends. My son is surrounded by love."

After years of speculation that there was animosity between Moynahan, Brady and Bündchen, the trio was spotted together at the park in New York City in May 2014.

2015

The actress celebrated the end of deflategate, an NFL controversy revolving around accusations that Brady ordered the deflating of footballs in the AFC Championship Game in the 2014-2015 NFL playoffs, in September 2015. "Yippee! I can go back to private texts and enjoying the game congrats #TB and @Patriots #letsmoveon," Moynahan tweeted at the time. A source also told Us Weekly at the time that things between Brady and Bündchen were “tense” amid the scandal.

2018

Moynahan made headlines in February 2018 after she congratulated the Philadelphia Eagles for their win against the New England Patriots after Super Bowl LII. “#NickFoles is having an amazing game @eagles @nfl,” she tweeted. “Amazing game @Patriots congratulations @Eagles #superbowl2018.”

In her 2018 memoir, Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, Bündchen recalled the difficult day she discovered Moynahan was pregnant with her boyfriend’s baby. “Two months into our relationship, Tom told me that his ex-girlfriend was pregnant. The very next day, the news was everywhere and I felt my world had been turned upside down,” she wrote. The former Victoria’s Secret angel added that Moynahan’s pregnancy “wasn’t an easy time” for her and referred to John as her “bonus child.”

Social media users thought Moynahan might be throwing shade at Brady in February 2019 after she named his teammate Julian Edelman as her Super Bowl MVP. “Congratulations @TB12sports @Patriots thinking @Edelman11 #MVP,” she tweeted. (Edelman was indeed awarded the MVP honor.)

“It was an interesting time because we found out after that my ex-girlfriend was pregnant with my oldest son. We were forced into this very important thing in our lives at a new part of our relationship,” he told Howard Stern in April 2020. “In a lot of ways, I found out a lot about Gisele through this experience, and she found out a lot about me dealing with a situation that was not a very easy one. … It was hard for my wife and for my son’s mom because she didn’t envision that either.”

Brady received a congratulatory message from Moynahan after his January 2021 NFC championship victory with Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which will take him to his 10th Super Bowl game. “Could not be more proud,” she wrote via Instagram alongside a pic of the athlete. “@tombrady said he would do it and he did. “Nothing has changed as far as Bridget and Tom coparenting. It’s still going well,” a source told Us Weekly in February 2021, noting that Bündchen and Moynahan were on “good terms” too. “Bridget’s someone who is friendly and easygoing and is known to be cordial with Tom and supportive of his career.”

Moynahan got a strange surprise when she encountered her ex's name in a novel she was reading in May 2021. “Wait!? What?” she captioned a photo of a page from Amity Gaige's Sea Wife, showing a sentence including the phrase, "the image of Tom Brady shirtless."

After previously supporting his February 2022 retirement announcement, the And Just Like That actress celebrated Brady's surprise return to the NFL one month later. As Brady and Bündchen made headlines for hiring divorce lawyers, Moynahan shared a cryptic quote about relationships originally posted by marriage therapist Vienna Pharaon.

“Not everything is meant to be mended. Not all relationships are meant to last a lifetime. Sometimes we have to learn to get comfortable with the gifts that are offered through the ruptures and the endings instead of the stories of repair and reconciliation," the Instagram excerpt read.
