Donald Jr. and Vanessa met a fashion show in New York City in 2003. After they were introduced by his father, Donald Trump. “Donald Trump comes up to me with his son: ‘Hi, I’m Donald Trump. I wanted to introduce you to my son Donald Trump Jr.,” she recalled of their first encounter in a 2006 interview with The New York Times. Six weeks later, the pair saw each other again at a birthday party, where they finally hit it off and began dating.
Donald Jr. got down on bended knee after presenting his fiancée with a 4-carat diamond engagement ring at the Bailey Banks and Biddle Fine Jewelers store in Short Hills, New Jersey.
The businessman announced his son Spencer’s arrival in October 2012 via Twitter. "It's a BOY!!! Vanessa and baby are doing great," the proud dad confirmed. Prior to welcoming the baby, Donald Jr. told Us that his other kids were excited about their new sibling. "Tristan ... doesn't know what's going on," he said at the time. "But Kai and Donnie are so excited! They're so involved with Tristan and love helping me feed and change him — so they're looking forward to having another baby around!"
The pair announced in January 2014 that they were expecting again. "We are thrilled to be welcoming baby number 5 this summer!" Donald Jr. exclusively told Us Weekly. "Vanessa and I can't wait to continue the adventure of raising the big family we have always wanted and have been blessed to receive." They also took to social media with the announcement. “Well @MrsVanessaTrump, Kai, D3, T-man Spencer & I have some exciting news. We are expecting baby #5 this summer. Cant wait #evenlesssleep,” he jokingly tweeted. She also reacted, tweeting: "We are very excited!"
Donald Jr. shared an Instagram photo of Vanessa with their five children on her 39th birthday in December 2016. The pair celebrated at a beach in Florida, and he posted a snap of her wearing a blue bikini while posing with their five kids. “Happy 10th annual 29th birthday Vanessa (aka 39 but shh don't tell anyone). Best mom in the world,” he wrote.
A family vacation became scary for the couple after their son, Tristan, broke his leg while skiing in Aspen, Colorado. The then-5-year-old was taken to Aspen Valley Hospital by Secret Service agents after the incident. “Donald Jr. met them there and left his other kids on the mountain with other members of the Secret Service,” a source told Us Weekly. “They gave the other kids a sleigh ride and they didn’t miss a beat.”
Before announcing their divorce, the businessman shared an Instagram photo of the family, including Vanessa, for son Donald’s birthday. “Happy birthday Donnie. Some birthday cake for my 9 year old little man yesterday,” he captioned the snap. “Somehow I hit send then but it didn’t go through.”
The pair made headlines after Vanessa opened up a letter mailed to their NYC apartment that contained an unidentified white substance. The former model, along with two other people at her home, were then taken to the hospital as a precaution. “Thankful that Vanessa & my children are safe and unharmed after the incredibly scary situation that occurred this morning,” Donald Jr. tweeted. “Truly disgusting that certain individuals choose to express their opposing views with such disturbing behavior.” A 25-year-old Massachusetts resident was later arrested for sending the letter addressed to the president's son and charged with “making hoax threats and mailing threatening communications” to Trump Jr. and four others.
Page Six reported that Vanessa filed for divorce from Donald on March 15, 2018, after 12 years of marriage. She filed in Manhattan Supreme Court and public court records stated that she was seeking an uncontested divorce. “After 12 years of marriage, we have decided to go our separate ways,” the pair said in a statement to Us Weekly. “We will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families. We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority. We ask for your privacy during this time.”
A source told Us exclusively that the pair had been dealing with marital issues for some time before calling it quits. “His relationship with Vanessa started getting rocky two years ago when his dad started to campaign,” the insider told Us. “Vanessa is very close to her family and very private and does not like all this attention on her family. They’ve been unhappy for a while.”
