A family affair. For the WWE’s legendary McMahons, professional wrestling is in their blood. The history of World Wrestling Entertainment is so vast that the corporation itself divides it into six different eras. Ultimately, the spectacle all began when wrestling and boxing promoter Jess McMahon (who was born in 1882 and died in 1954) and his son Vincent McMahon (who was born in 1915 and died in 1984) formed the Capitol Wrestling Corporation one year prior to Jess’ death. Six years later, Vincent founded the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF), which would later become the WWE under his son Vince’s direction. In 1982, Vince — who is credited for transforming the WWE into the pop culture staple it is today — purchased WWWF from his father. (He changed the company’s name to WWE in 2002.) Vince also jumped into the wrestling scene (and ring) as a character all his own, a striking difference from his father and grandfather’s preference to be behind the scenes. Vince is married to Linda McMahon (née Edwards), who currently works in politics but previously worked in the wrestling world as co-CEO of the WWE. The couple have two children: Shane (born in 1970) and Stephanie (born in 1976), both professional wrestlers themselves. Shane is married to film producer Marissa McMahon (née Mazzola), and together they have three sons: Declan (born in 2004), Kenyon (born in 2006) and Rogan (born in 2010). [jwplayer mtqDPpWc-zhNYySv2] For her part, Stephanie — who served as WWE's co-CEO and Chairwoman from July 2022 until her resignation in January 2023 — is married to pro wrestler Paul “Triple H” Levesque, with whom she shares three daughters: Aurora (born in 2006), Murphy (born in 2008), and Vaughn (born in 2010). The youngest members of the McMahon family already seem to be following in their parents' and ancestors’ athletic footsteps: In April 2022, Shane’s son Declan committed to play college football with the Indiana Hoosiers, while his cousin Aurora “has already started training” as a wrestler, Stephanie told Fox News in 2019. Vince McMahon

Vince is arguably the most well-known member of the McMahon family and is responsible for taking the family business to great heights in the ‘80s, ‘90s and beyond, helping to create Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker’s characters. He became a TV personality in his own right, exaggerating his own position as the CEO of the WWE to form his character, Mr. McMahon.

He and his wife Linda are parents to professional wrestlers Shane and Stephanie McMahon, who also play important roles on the corporate side of the WWE.

WWE confirmed in June 2022 that Vince would “voluntarily” take a step back from his duties as CEO and Chairman amid an investigation into his behavior. (He was accused of paying a secret $3 million settlement to a former employee to conceal an alleged affair, according to a Wall Street Journal report.)

In July 2022, the pro wrestler announced his official retirement from the WWE. "At 77, time for me to retire. Thank you, WWE Universe.  Then. Now. Forever. Together. #WWE #thankful,” he wrote via Twitter at the time. 

Despite his exit announcement, the North Carolina native returned to the company as Executive Chairman in January 2023.

"Our founder, Vince McMahon, has returned as Executive Chair and is leading an exciting process regarding strategic alternatives," Stephanie wrote via Twitter at the time while announcing her resignation from the co-CEO and Chairwoman position.

Linda McMahon

Having met her future husband, Vince, when they were just teenagers, Linda was heavily involved with wrestling throughout their lives and careers, helping Vince form Titan Sports Inc. and later becoming the co-CEO of the WWE.

She left the sports realm in the 2000s to pursue her political ambitions. In 2016, she worked under then-president Donald Trump as the Administrator of the Small Business Administration. Three years later, she served as chairwoman for Trump’s political action committee America First Action.

Shane McMahon

Following in his family’s footsteps, Shane worked his way up in the WWE from working in the warehouse as a teen to referee to pro wrestler, battling against the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Hogan and teaming up with The Undertaker and the Ministry of Darkness.

In addition to his wrestling persona, Shane also made waves behind the scenes, including launching the official WWE website and brokering multiple TV deals. He has been married to wife Marissa since 1996, and their sons have made occasional WWE-related television appearances.

Marissa McMahon

Like her husband and his family, Marissa also works in the entertainment industry, though she is more involved in the film world as a producer and actress. She has produced such movies as 2002’s The Scorpion King and 2012’s What Maisie Knew.

Stephanie McMahon

Like her brother, Stephanie learned the ropes of the WWE by climbing the corporate ladder from receptionist to professional wrestler to Chief Brand Officer. In May 2022, she announced her “leave of absence” from “the majority of duties” of the role.

“WWE is a lifelong legacy for me and I look forward to returning to the company that I love after taking this time to focus on my family,” she tweeted at the time.

Just two months later, Stephanie walked back her statements and took over her father's role as co-CEO and Chairwoman after Vince stepped down amid an internal investigation into his behavior. She held the position until January 2023, when she announced her resignation. 

"WWE is in such a strong position that I have decided to return to my leave and take it one step further with my official resignation," the businesswoman wrote in a statement shared via Twitter. 

While her father was initially hesitant about her dating (and marrying) a fellow pro wrestler, Vince eventually gave his blessing, and Stephanie and Levesque tied the knot in 2003, later welcoming three daughters.

Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque

After decades as a professional wrestler in the WWE — he has won 14 world championships — Triple H retired from the sport in March 2022 after suffering from heart failure in September 2021, for which he underwent surgery.

“As far as in ring, which I get [asked about] a lot, I’m done. I would never wrestle again,” he revealed on ESPN’s First Take in March 2022, adding, “I have a defibrillator in my chest. Which, it’s probably not a good idea for me to get zapped on live TV.”
