The fashion heavyweight, 66, was on the morning show to discuss the upcoming documentary The First Monday in May, as well as the annual Met Gala on May 2, which is cochaired this year by none other than the “Out of the Woods” singer herself. Swift’s major transformation for the cover of Vogue — complete with a shaggy lob and bleached brows — dropped on Thursday morning in conjunction with Wintour’s Today appearance.

“I’m thrilled that it’s Taylor Swift,” Wintour said. “We very much wanted to give Taylor a new look. Make her into a rock ‘n’ roll chick.” The editor and her team were also able to pay their respects to outgoing Saint Laurent Paris designer Hedi Slimane, who announced he was stepping down from his high-profile post last month.

To pay homage to the beloved fashion figure, Wintour and her team dressed Swift, 26, on the cover in a slinky Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane dress. “We love the way she looks,” Wintour continued of the “New Romantics” singer. “We think she looks young and modern and different, and I can’t wait to see what she’s gonna wear on May 2.”

Along with the hot topic of her new cover girl, Wintour also indulged in an abridged version of Vogue’s “73 Questions” on the Today show. Coanchor Savannah Guthrie posed the rapid-fire questions, and kicked off the round by asking, “What is the one fashion trend that you would like to banish forever?”

“Well, um, I don’t really love nylon,” Wintour replied. The longtime Vogue editor also addressed her sentiments about selfies, athleisure, culottes, chunky heels and more.
