Derek Zoolander Lands First ‘Vogue’ Cover (Yes, Seriously)

Derek Zoolander
Just in time for 'Zoolander 2,' Derek Zoolander (aka Ben Stiller) and Penelope Cruz cover the February 2016 issue of 'Vogue.'

“Blue Steel” time! Derek Zoolander, the man who imparted to Us the importance of being really, really, really, ridiculously good-looking, just landed the February 2016 cover of Vogue.

The beloved big-screen supermodel, played to perfection by Ben Stiller, works a very serious pose in a bird-print Dolce & Gabbana suit. And then there’s his costar Penélope Cruz, who absolutely stuns by his side in a body-conscious, blue Ralph Lauren Collection dress.

But the Vogue-ing doesn’t stop there! There are plenty of hilarious Zoolander shots inside the issue too: Zoolander bent over and wearing a saddle; Zoolander getting his hair done next to the likes of Gigi Hadid; Zoolander blowing off paparazzi while clad in an over-the-top leather getup, all while working his unmistakable pursed-lips pose.

Zoolander and Vogue’s friendship first sparked last spring, when Stiller and Owen Wilson, who plays Derek’s rival Hansel in the movies, stormed the runway at Valentino’s Fall 2015 show to thunderous applause. After that, the actors filmed a short video in character with the fashion bible’s head honcho herself, Anna Wintour.

According to Wilson, they received the “the best reaction you could have imagined” at the event.

That said, Stiller revealed that the studio never really understood his comedy or its charmingly self-absorbed lead character. “We were on our own — both in the fashion world and with the studio, too,” the actor told Vogue. “They were just like, ‘We don’t quite know what this is.'”

Nevertheless, the film became a cult classic, and 15 years later, the sequel (which costars Cruz, Wilson, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig) is about to hit theaters on February 12. The only thing missing? “Karl Lagerfeld,” Stiller shared. “We didn’t get Karl Lagerfeld. I would have liked to get Karl. I came close. He’s iconic. It breaks my heart. [But] maybe if we ever do another …”

Update: To celebrate the magazine’s release, Zoolander shared this snap of his “cheat day” breakfast to Instagram:
