Dwyane Wade sure did well! As Us Weekly reported on Saturday, Dec. 21, the NBA player proposed to girlfriend Gabrielle Union — and with a stunning 8.5-carat diamond ring by Jason of Beverly Hills, no wonder she said yes! The gorgeous cushion cut stone, which Union, 40, and Wade, 31, both shared via Instagram following the Miami Heat player’s proposal, is “valued at nearly 1 million dollars,” Jason Arasheben, the CEO of Jason of Beverly Hills tells Us.
“I made 3 separate personal visits to Miami to present different options until we found the perfect stone,” Arasheben tells Us. “Dwyane had been planning it for months and was very particular to find the stone of Gabrielle’s dreams,” he adds.
It’s no surprise Wade was so particular about finding the perfect rock for his girlfriend of four years. Credited for bringing “geek chic” style to the NBA, the athlete also has his own shoe line and front row seats to runway shows each season.
Wade and the actress, 40, have been dating since 2009 and have publicly gushed about their love for one another.
“She makes my eyes sparkle,” Wade said of his gal pal during Oprah’s Next Chapter back in July 2012. Following a contentious 3-year court battle with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, Wade was awarded custody of his two sons, Zaire and Zion.
“The biggest time she makes my eyes sparkle is when Zaire comes home and homework is a little hard that day, so he’s stressing, and she goes to the table with him and she sits down until he gets it,” he shared. “And at that time my heart is smiling a little bigger that day because I know her love is deeper than just me,” Wade professed to Oprah Winfrey.
Though an engagement did not come until a year and a half later, Wade already knew Union was it: “We’re a family, and we’re growing as a family every day. And I think that’s the great thing about it,” he said last year. “We have so much more room to improve as a family and it’s awesome.”
