Givenchy SS15 Ad Campaign Featuring Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts was tapped by designer Riccardo Tisci to star in the Givenchy spring/summer 2015 ad campaign.

It's a one-woman show!

Julia Roberts has done a lot in her long career, and is the proud winner of an Academy Award and several Golden Globes. The busy mom’s latest career highlight comes as she has been tapped as the face of the Givenchy spring/summer 2015 advertising campaign, the brand announced on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

With the fashion industry falling at his feet, designer Riccardo Tisci could have chosen any model for the job, but he set his eyes on Roberts, 47, to really speak to the strong women of the world.

"For me, Julia is many things," he told Yahoo Style."She has this strength as an actress, but she's also this beautiful American woman. She's a big star, but she's not a paparazzi or a blog monster." The timing is also aligned with his own career milestone. "It's going to be my 10th year at Givenchy in March, so I wanted to represent the woman who is more mature, beautiful, talented, but also unpretentious."

For her part, the Normal Heart star was surprised when she heard about the casting news. "My sister and I were actually just on the phone, and we were laughing so hard," she told Yahoo Style's Joe Zee. "She goes, 'How are you suddenly turned into a supermodel? You're almost 50."

Having never met Tisci before, Roberts didn’t know what to expect from the Italian fashion designer. “I was so nervous, and I was expecting this very kind of chic man in a suit and a white shirt and a tie," she said. "I come walking in and there’s this good-looking man in a plaid flannel shirt and some work boots. I’m like, 'This is Riccardo?' He’s so sweet."

Dressed in a black tuxedo look and sheer top with her hair left loose, Roberts' signature wide grin was purposefully missing in action. "For a still photograph, it’s great when it’s spontaneous and people are looking happy, but it can also look manufactured," Roberts said. "Not just me, but for anybody! I love that they wanted it to be sort of cool, edgy, and boyish."
