Lauren Conrad's step-by-step guide to making her Halloween costume
And voila--she's a mermaid! See Lauren Conrad's DIY guide to creating your own mermaid Halloween costume.

Under the sea—that’s where Lauren Conrad is headed for Halloween!

This Oct. 31, the newlywed designer, 28, is dressing up as a mermaid. And because she’s the craftiest of them all, she’s not only giving fans a sneak peek at her sparkly design, but she’s also sharing all the steps she took to create it, so you can make your own at home!

“Thank you to all who voted to help me choose!” Conrad wrote on her website, and noted that it was a pretty close call between the mermaid and a ringleader. (She even bought her dog, Chloe, a lion costume just in case!) But in the end she said, “I’m glad Mermaid won because my DIY costume turned out pretty flippin’ cute (pun intended).”

Straight from LaurenConrad.com, Conrad, who wed William Tell last month, began her guide by listing all of the supplies you’ll need, including two large scalloped seashells, a corset bra, dark green fabric with some stretch, tulle, a needle and threed, and more (the whole list is here!).

Now, here are Conrad’s steps to making the seashell bra:

1. Lay the bra on a flat surface and arrange the seashells to your liking.

2. Use your hot glue gun to secure all of the seashells onto the bra. I went through them individually to make sure each shell was intact.

And her steps for sewing the mermaid tail:

1. Wrap the shimmery green fabric around your dress form, making sure that the fabric is inside out.

2. Pin the fabric in place with your straight pins so that you know where to go back and sew it together.
