Setting a new bar for “epic”! James Cameron announced at CinemaCon on Thursday, April 14, that his hit fantasy film Avatar will be getting not one, not two, not three, but four sequels within the next 10 years.

“We’ve decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic project, making four epic films, each one of which stands alone but which together form a complete saga,” Cameron said during a surprise appearance at the Las Vegas extravaganza.

Cameron, 61, added that he had initially envisioned two sequels to his 2009 blockbuster, but after consulting with his team of four screenwriters and a group of “some of the top artists and designers in the world,” he realized that he had way too much material to go to waste.

“So far, what I am seeing in pure imagination is far beyond the first film,” he teased, noting that select few people have been given access to the initial concepts. “It’s going to be a true epic saga.”
