Adam Levine: “I Can’t Wait To Do The Voice Again!”

Adam Levine was the only rock star in the world who could steal the spotlight away from the MTV Video Music Awards — before it even aired!

On Saturday, August 27, the day before the big show, he ignited a firestorm by Tweeting, "the VMA's. one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I'm drawing a line in the sand. f*ck you VMA's!" (MTV's Twitter retort? "Soooo you'll be tuning in at 9/8C tomorrow right? BTW, bonus points if you TwitPic your 2004 Moonman!").

Of course, Levine is doing quite fine without the endorsement of the network's honors, thanks to the success of his band Maroon 5, and now, his mentor role on the runaway TV smash The Voice. Us’ Lily Harrison caught up with Levine on August 26 — the day before his Tweet heard 'round the world — at Snapple's Feeding America "Tea Will Be Loved" event at NYC's Hard Rock Cafe to discuss the show's next season and the surprise charttopper it spawned, "Moves Like Jagger."

UsMagazine.com: How does the rest of Maroon 5 feel about you doing The Voice?

Adam Levine: Everybody else loves it. They love it. When we talked about doing it, it was a risk for sure. Everyone was really supportive and the band was so cool with it, and I think that everyone was hoping it would go exactly the way that it did. Obviously, we were lucky it wound up breaking out. Any time you do something like this you put yourself out there, you never know what's gonna happen, but I always had my support from my brothers in the band, and it all worked.

Us: And how do you feel about starting the next season?

AL: I'm excited. Everyone says they're fans of the show and I kind of say the same thing, I'm a fan of the show as well. I'm a spectator as much as anybody else. So, I get to watch with the rest of the country as this all goes down, I just have a really good seat. So, I can't wait to be a part of it again. I feel like a fan as well.

Us: Are you excited about seeing the coaches again?

AL: Yeah, yeah. They're all great. We hang out and, we do a little judging too. We silently judge you but we actively coach.

Us: How do you feel about the success of "Moves Like Jagger"?

AL: I was actually hoping it would be a massive failure! No, I'm so happy. It just felt good to do something different, and not have it be the same thing that people are used to hearing from us. It's a fun song, and I love having it be fun. It's okay to release fun songs, as long as they're good ones. And I like the fact that it's kind of a carefree dance tune, which is  a huge part of our sound, we love those moments. So it's great to be part of it.

Us: If you could change anything about next season, what would you change?

AL: Nothing. I had such a blast, I can only hope that the second season will be as great as the first one. And maybe I can get a massager. Yeah, Cee Lo's got a fanner. Next season's like ancient Rome. Grapes. If you don't sing well, you die!
