It’s here! Music fans got an extra treat when Adele’s new music video for “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” debuted during the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 22.
The British powerhouse, 28, first gave a sneak peek of the Patrick Daughters–directed video via Instagram on May 16. In the video, she wears a long-sleeve floral dress while standing in front of a black background. Images of her overlap as she belts out the sultry tune.
“I’m giving you up / I’ve forgiven it all / You set me free, oh,” she sings. “Send my love to your new lover / Treat her better / We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts / We both know we ain’t kids no more.”
Adele was nominated for eight awards on Sunday, but couldn’t attend the live show due to her world tour. Just before the video debut, Adele nabbed the Billboard Top 100 Artist award, thanking fans via taped video message. She’ll kick off the North American leg at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 5.
“Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” is off Adele’s third studio album, 25, which she released in November 2015 to record-shattering sales. (Forbes reported in January that it had already sold more than 15 million copies worldwide.) She opened up about her new music in an open letter to fans back in October.
“My last record was a breakup record, and if I had to label this one, I would call it a make-up record. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did,” she tweeted at the time. “Turning 25 was a turning point for me, slap bang in the middle of my twenties. Teetering on the edge of being an old adolescent and a fully fledged adult … 25 is about getting to know who I’ve become without realizing.”
