Allison Williams is on her way to Neverland! The Girls actress has been cast as the title role in NBC’s live musical production of Peter Pan, the network announced on Wednesday, July 30. The 26-year-old will play opposite Christopher Walken’s Captain Hook.
“Dreams do come true!” NBC tweeted from its official account. “#Girls star Allison Williams will play Peter Pan in #PeterPanLive!” (NBC previously did a live musical version of The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer.)
“I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about 3 years old, so this is a dream come true,” Williams said in a press release about the news. “It’s such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I’m very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team.”
“And besides,” added Williams, “what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?”
The brunette star also posted a throwback picture of herself dressed as Peter Pan via Instagram. “Thrilled to be playing Peter Pan live on NBC in December. I’ve been rehearsing for a REALLY long time,” she joked.
Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement that Williams “will bring the perfect blend of ‘boyish’ vulnerability and bravado to save the day against Christopher Walken’s powerful Captain Hook.”
“Allison Williams is a major find,” executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron added. “She will reinvent the iconic role of Peter Pan with her wit, her warmth, her dynamic flying and her wonderful musical abilities. The score will be sung beautifully and introduced to a whole new generation of families.”
Williams is the daughter of NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams. She’s previously showed off her singing chops while playing Marnie Michaels in the Emmy winning HBO series Girls.
Peter Pan Live! will air on NBC on Thursday, Dec. 4.
