‘Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?’ Recap: Ben Higgins Admits Feeling ‘Disconnected’ During Wedding Planning

We are on an emotional roller coaster with Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell. On the Tuesday, November 1, episode of Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?, Ben and Lauren made another attempt at wedding planning, then quickly moved on to other things to avoid wedding planning.

The Little Bit of Wedding Planning

Lauren’s sister, Mollie, came in to help the Bachelor season 20 lovebirds with their wedding registry. Ben immediately became defensive over everything and didn’t want anything that they don’t need. Items he declined include: a bar cart, an ice-cream maker, a waffle iron, a cake stand and serving platters. Mollie and Lauren ignored most of Ben’s negative comments and continued making the list.

Ben and Lauren Look at Houses

In case you forgot, Ben’s Bachelor ex Lace Morris is a realtor, and she proved it by showing Ben and Lauren two completely opposite houses, neither of which would realistically work for the couple.

The first house they looked at was rundown with dead bugs and stains everywhere. Ben pretended to like the “fixer-upper” qualities while keeping his hand over his nose to muffle the smell. The second home Lace offered was the complete opposite of the first, and just so happened to be Lauren’s dream home with a not-so-dream price tag.

While Ben pouted, Lauren tried to show him the positives of them building a home together. Instead of being the sweet guy he was on The Bachelor, he started lecturing Lauren about their financial situation. “I don’t need you to tell me that, Dad,” Lauren scoffed.

“Please call me Daddy,” Ben replied in a tone that was too stern for comfort. Both of them started laughing, then couldn’t keep straight faces for the rest of this fight.

Finding New Careers

Lauren revealed that she was not able to be a flight attendant anymore because of her high level of recognition and needed to find a new career that she loves, which inspired Ben to also find a new career that he loves. Then Ben looked up at the hibachi grill they were sitting around and decided that owning a restaurant might be his next move.

Moments later, Ben came out of the kitchen dressed in full hibachi chef garb. (This cannot be a coincidence, can it?) After a montage of Ben not picking up any of the chef skills from his teacher, he cooked a meal for women from the Red Hat Society, who also gave him marriage advice.

Then Lauren tested out a career as a zookeeper. She had a knack for feeding the giraffes and talking to the animals in high-pitched voices. She was much less excited about picking up rhino poop (without gloves!).

The verdict: not enough cuddling with the animals, and too much poop. This was not the career for Lauren.

Unsolicited Advice

A passerby in the grocery store asked Ben and Lauren if they had sexted while they were apart, before their engagement was made public. Since we’ve all been wondering how that long-distance secret thing works, the answer was no. Ben said he would laugh if Lauren ever sent him a sexy message. This didn’t stop the woman from recommending a few poses and showing the couple a “classy” photo that she recently sent her husband. Ben wasn’t sure how to respond, and it didn’t seem like they’ll be taking this woman’s advice.

Lauren Launches a Blog

After their experimental careers, Ben decided to stick with his current path as a software salesman. Lauren decided that her ideal career would be a blogger.

Like every blogger’s perfect boyfriend, Ben offered to help Lauren out with her first photo shoot. He did take photography in high school, after all.

…And then Lauren brought in a professional. Those photos came out much better.

Ben still wanted to help, so he offered to do Lauren’s makeup for her big blog launch party. He had even less experience doing makeup than photography, so you can imagine how that turned out. And if you can’t imagine, Lauren described it as, “You’re lucky I have my glam team coming.”

Lauren Throws a Party, and Ben Is MIA

Lauren mingled around her launch party and talked to a few reporters but was anxious about Ben not being by her side. He was supposed to meet her there, but he was running a little late.

While she was complaining to fellow Bachelor alums Ashley Iaconetti and Becca Tilley about Ben not being there, he walked in with a bouquet of flowers, Lauren’s mom and Lauren’s brother. He completely redeemed himself, and they were in love again!

Ben Expresses Doubt

Wedding planning really wasn’t Ben’s thing. Lauren set up a photo shoot for herself and her fiancé to show off their love. It looked like a classic photo shoot, something this nationally recognized couple should be used to by now, but Ben was having trouble understanding what they were doing.

“What are we going to do with these photos?” he asked. Lauren told him they’re nice to have around their house, and Ben said they don’t need more photos for their house. Enough with the “need,” Ben!

Then, Ben admitted to the camera, “I’m very disconnected from wedding planning.”

Cake tasting also stressed Ben out, and he got upset that Lauren didn’t know he was allergic to coconut. To be fair, what if Ben passed out and the paramedics came and tried to give him coconut to revive him? Disaster waiting to happen.
