With Fifty Shades of Grey just days away from its Feb. 13 release, anticipation for the book’s famous sex scenes is at a fever pitch. Franchise stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan have been talking for weeks about how awkward it was to film the BDSM-themed scenes, but on Saturday, Feb. 7, Johnson offered a more encouraging view of the steamy moments between her and her costar.
Asked by Access Hollywood to choose her favorite love scene from the movie, the 25-year-old actress chose the moment where Christian Grey (Dornan) uses his mouth to run an ice cube down Anastasia Steele’s body. She also said she was happy with the scene in which Ana loses her virginity to Christian.
“The virginity scene is something that is so beautiful,” she told Access. “And the way that [cinematographer] Seamus [McGarvey] and [director] Sam [Taylor-Johnson] shot that scene, it’s really incredible. And the colors! It’s so saturated, and then just watching a really profound moment in a young girl’s life, I think that was pretty special to do.”
Johnson — the daughter of Hollywood stars Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson — also spoke with the UK’s Telegraph about the movie, saying she felt “completely detached” during the sex scenes. “It was like watching someone who looked a lot like me doing really bizarre things,” she told the paper.
That said, she’s very aware now that it is her on screen, and has banned her famous parents from watching the movie. “I don’t want them to see it,” she told The Telegraph. “I wouldn’t want to see them doing it. At all!”
Her anxiety about the movie isn’t limited to her family’s reactions, either. Asked if she had doubts about taking on the role to begin with, she admitted, “Yes. Of course. Absolutely. The whole time. Even now there are moments when I think, ‘What the f–k have I done?’ But most of the time I feel pretty solid about it.”
