Every Gilmore Girls fan knows that the dynamic mother-daughter duo of Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) possess a range of unique talents. They can consume more food in a day than most people can in a week while maintaining flawless physiques, compete in a 24-hour dance marathon while wearing heels, and … foresee the future?
Throughout its seven-season stint that wrapped up in 2007, show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino embedded many jabs at celebrities and politicians within her Gilmore Girls scripts, and they did not go unnoticed. In fact, loyal fans who have been catching up with the series in advance of its Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, have been somewhat stunned to learn that Stars Hollow residents in fact exchanged many words years ago about the current 2016 presidential hopefuls Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
As the race draws to a close with the Tuesday, November 8, election, could it be possible that the show’s beloved characters knew the whole time who would be running for president this year? Twitter thinks we should certainly not discredit Sherman-Palladino’s political remarks, as she may have been the one to put this year’s showdown to be commander in chief into motion. Here are eight surprisingly prescient references from the show’s original run.
1. The show hinted at Clinton’s motto.

Did Paris Geller (Liza Weil) predict Clinton’s campaign slogan, “Stronger Together”? Paris and Clinton both went to Yale and are both powerful and motivated women, so maybe Clinton and her campaign team found an unusual source of inspiration!
2. A prophecy is brewing in Sookie’s kitchen.

Like the old saying goes, the proof is in the pudding, or whatever else Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy) is stirring up! In season 2, episode 18, entitled “Back in the Saddle Again,” Lorelai and Sookie discover they may be able to secure a location to build their dream inn, the Dragonfly. But when Lorelai asks Sookie to guess who owns the property, she snaps back with the name of someone who may or may not be moving into the White House in the near future.
3. Paris is with her!

You may remember that Rory passionately supported Clinton’s 2008 bid for the presidency, but did you know that Rory’s best friend, the hotheaded and academically driven Paris, is also a Clinton supporter? Check out this collage on Paris’ wall, indicating that she and her boyfriend, Doyle McMaster (Danny Strong), have already celebrated a Clinton victory!
4. Paris mocked how hard the choice would be.

It’s very likely that Paris had psychic abilities because this sounds a bit akin to what some Americans who support this year’s Democratic nominee are saying these days!
5. Mitchum Huntzberger was a version of Donald Trump.

Logan Huntzberger, Rory’s college sweetheart, is the son of pompous newspaper mogul Mitchum Huntzberger, who some Gilmore Girls fans believe to be a reflection of the real estate magnate who’s the real-life Republican nominee, and there may be some truth to that. Gregg Henry, the actor who portrays Huntzberger, also appears on Shonda Rhimes‘ series Scandal as Hollis Doyle, oil tycoon turned presidential nominee, who was vying for the Republican ticket against the only female GOP candidate, Mellie Grant. Perhaps Gregg Henry has been typecast?
6. Clinton and Paris are one and the same.

Paris’ classmates Madeline (Shelly Cole) and Louise (Teal Redmann) inform her that 90 percent of students polled agree that Paris is the most qualified and competent individual to be president of their high school.
However, Louise regretfully informs Paris that, when polled on likability, the student body found Paris to be “a tad scary,” and these thoughts would affect the candidate they vote for! Perhaps this is a subtle allusion to Hillary?
As Paris frantically tries to save her campaign, Paris asks what she should do, to which Louise responds, “Hope for a sex scandal.” Bill Clinton, are you watching this?
7. Clinton already won New York.

What better clue could we hope for? When Lorelai bids beau Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) goodbye on the phone with this casual promise, Luke replies, “I’ll see you later today.” Even in 2004, Lorelai may have cracked the 2016 election.
