‘Game of Thrones’ Star Reacts to Character’s Death: ‘It’s Gruesome!’

He got what he deserved. Game of Thronesepic battle scene on Sunday, June 19, finally saw Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) get his long-awaited comeuppance after terrorizing and murdering his way through three seasons of the hit TV show.

In a dramatic finale to “Battle of the Bastards,” Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was ultimately victorious (after getting a good deal of help from sister Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen), punching Bolton in the face until he was almost dead.

Bolton’s final demise was left to his own hounds, who finished off the job in a horrific fashion. And talking to Entertainment Weekly after his final scenes had been filmed, actor Rheon revealed he thought his character’s horrendous end was a pretty fitting exit.

“It’s cool. I’ve had four lovely seasons here,” the 31-year-old actor said. “I think it’s kind of right he goes down. Because what else is he going to do after this? He’s done so many things. It’s justified and it’s the right thing to do. It’s the right path. He’s reached his peak. It’s nice for the audience that he goes out on this high, if you will.”

While the outcome of the battle sealed the end of Rheon’s contract on the show, the actor insists that as a fan of the series, he is pleased his character was killed off.

“I do think it’s just and it’s right,” he said. “I’m glad it happens as a fan of the show. Jon Snow needs to win because otherwise there’s no hope left in the world. But it is interesting that it isn’t fair. And afterward, Ramsay still thinks he’s won. He’s so arrogant and self-assured he thinks he’ll still be fine — until the last minute. He always thinks he’s going to be OK.”

But OK he is not, and as death scenes go, Rheon is pleased that his character got a real doozy!

“I feel really lucky he got a proper send-off. And it’s a gruesome death. It’s so ironic. He’s been banging on about those hounds all this time,” he added.
